As part of my quest to inspire Mamas to realise their potential to rock Mamahood whilst still being able to retain their own self identity and individuality, I started an interview series where I share the stories of fellow ‘Rockin’ Mamas’. I have been lucky enough to interview amazing Mama bloggers too like Honest Mum and Lauren from Dilan and Me and today I am sharing with you another truly inspirational Mama blogger who has turned her love for lipstick into a career; Sophia aka Tattooed Tealady.
When I was sent a press release for the memoir of Patricia Gachagan, ‘Born Together’, I was compelled to invite her to be interviewed in this series of Rockin’ Mamas as her story could be uplifting and empowering for Mothers everywhere. Patricia has shared her incredible journey through Motherhood with Multiple Sclerosis and has been amazing enough to talk a little to us about her struggle and fight and about her story ‘Born Together’.
March has been a strange month in the Rock and Roses Mama household… it has been an absolute rollercoaster thats for sure! There have been some seriously amazing moments for my little blog, some crazy happy events for our family (Ummm… like we got MARRIED! EEEEK!) and then there have been some disastrous days that have shaken us to our core and proven to us what an amazing, loving and strong family network we have around us. Im not going to lie I don’t like talking about the negative parts of the last few weeks but in time I’m sure I will write about it and share my experience with you all on day… but it is just far too raw currently for me to even know where to begin! So we shall focus on the good… and the uplifting.
So International Womens Day has crept up on me this year and I have been thinking about how I can show my support and promote this years theme #beboldforchange when I realised I already do; by buying from independent businesses that are run by women, predominantly Mothers, and promoting their incredibly unique and empowering products. So I thought I would take this opportunity to share my most recent favourites with you all so that you too can support businesses run by women and #beboldforchange.
I was watching ITV’ This Morning… this morning… (I have to admit that i don’t ordinarily actually pay much attention to morning shows as I am attempting to finally eat my breakfast after sorting out everyone else and indulging my little man in playing for a while) and I was for the first time enthralled by the new feature that Lorraine Kelly hosts called ‘Brand New You’. It is a thread that aims to give daily advice and inspiration to women wanting to refresh and detox their bodies for 2017. Today the instalment focussed on stress and it really interested me enough to feel the need to share in with you lovely ladies, and men, as I feel that parents need to find time for themselves to destress most of all!
Everyone loves a good ol’ fashioned Christmas tradition and they are rife in our family! Some span back to before I was even born and have been going on for generations of Rock and Roses ladies; others are brand spanking new and I have conjured them for my little family to enjoy. I think that Christmas is not all about the day (don’t get me wrong it is important obviously) but about the season as a whole. There is a certain warmth and joy to creating the Christmas spirit in your home for your children to bask in. The magic of Christmas can be found in the sparking of imagination from the start of Winter right though to the end; Christmas Traditions are an amazing way of making this possible.
Today I am reigniting this seemingly lost corner of my blog which strives to lift and encourage Mamas to not lose sight of who they are after childbirth; The Rockin’ Mamas series. It is so easily done, to become so washed away in Motherhood that we don’t take any time for ourselves; doing what makes us, US! So I sent out a plea for women far and wide to share their stories with you all in the hope of supporting and proving it IS possible! and sharing the amazingly inspirational story of Selena from ‘Winter and Rain’, and her lush lil family.
As you can clearly see from my, verging on spammy, Instagram feed I love a bit of the ol’ Christmas spirit. No scrooges or grinches permitted near this Mama’s household thank you very much! Needless to say that music is a huge part of Christmas for me; I have a deep love for music. Wether you love them or loathe them, Christmas songs are a massive part of getting in to the spirit of the season and, like it or not, cannot be avoided the further into December you get.
If you follow me you will know that I love a good ol’ baking session with my little man. The benefit of it being that I also get to eat what I create; win win. As the season of gluttonous goodwill approached I thought I would have a stab at Mince Pies. The seasons traditional sweet treat; along with many others that have entered my mouth already and will continue to do so until they stop selling them (Valentines? Easter maybe?) On perusing traditional recipes, I’m looking at you Delia, Mincemeat seems a horrendous faff so I decided to cheat and pick up some ready made stuff from my local LIDL as ‘Every LIDL helps’… right? Indeed it does. So here are my Mince Pie baking hacks with LIDL.
So Ive been experimenting with baking ever since becoming a Mama as Im sure that during birth there is this switch that suddenly clicks on in your brain that gives you the mama instinct to become a budding Nigella lawson or something?! Anyone else experienced this? I was truly terrible at all things backing in my no parenting days and suddenly now I find myself altering recipes, changing ingredients and writing my own recipes for you lovely peeps to enjoy with a cuppa! I love shortbread, the Starbucks choc chip variety are to die for, and have always hankered after getting mine just right.
So this week the Mr and I went on a lush little mini break and left the small man in the house with Boushka (my aptly named, Kate Bush loving mama) And as the reason for our mini break was the Mr’s Birthday we have been super busy since we’ve been back home and haven’t had much of a chance to actually just sit and chill! My ‘let it go moments’ this week are therefore themed on being outside the home as, like I’m sure most mommas, things can get quite stressful when you are out with a toddler!
If you follow me you will have seen my post detailing how to rock your kids next birthday party with a tribal theme; the theme was based around our amazingly cool present for our little man which was a monochrome teepee that I purchased from Grattify. I am totally in love with it and posted it all over social media with great response! I have since been asked back to the site to check out their spanking new feature that lets you ‘Make an Offer’ on an item to get a personalised price.
