After the amazing Utterly Feral’s instalment of #bloggybrides last week you should now have pretty much all you need to know to organise your big day… But as the fateful event of the ‘hen do’ looms and you think, what on earth shall I do? Well lets just say I had a pretty good idea of my perfect shindig on the smaller scale budget we had set for everyone (we had been invited to some pretty expensive hens and stags and decided that we didn’t want to put people in that awkward situation where they cannot afford it or get the time off work etc…) We agreed we would just do something relatively local… and for 24 hours. I had my heart set on a night out and then a spa afternoon the next day and started organising things when I was put to a sudden halt by one of my head bridesmaids; “WE will organise this for you…” Amazing. SO without further ado I invite you to be part of my gorgeous weekend… my ‘hen do’ adventures.
So as you who follow me know I only started blogging about three months ago. I was totally unaware of what I was getting into, I just knew a few things; I love writing, I would love to be able to write for a living and I am passionate about Mamas not losing who they are. When I started blogging and plucked up the courage to send my first post in to the depths of the world wide web I was completely unaware of the community I had entered. As I began learning about linkies, Twitter chats, networks and conferences etc I was utterly blown away by the support and encouragement I was given every day. So this post is to say thank you to The Blogosphere.
Im back ladies and gents… and in true Elsa style, singing at the top of the mountains “… let it go…” This week has felt utterly exhausting (Three 6am starts at work has seen me totally not with it by the end of them – I got used to my ‘toddler that actually sleeps until 7.30am sleeping habits!) and has seen some major faux pas in the baking world, possibly due to the depleting energy levels actually! So in true Sunday style I am willing myself to let it all go!
So today ladies and gents… I am extraordinarily tired. I am tired of working from 6am every morning, I am tired from having appointments and meetings after work each day and I am tired of having no food in the house as it is the week before payday (Thankfully my man is amazing in every way and has been supplying me with chocolate and Oreo donuts to make me smile – yes they DO make those!) I don’t know about you but when I feel this deflated with the struggles and time juggling of Mum life, it comes hand in hand with feeling as though I am exhibiting terrible parenting when not having the cheerful ‘Barbie doll smile’
Apart from the fortunate few, all Mamas fall victim to the ‘Mum-bod’ post pregnancy and the anxiety and depression that comes with it. With every ounce of extra weight that is gained, every extra inch that surrounds our once slim waistline and every stretch mark, comes a certain deflation that leaves us longing to be our former trim selves. I however have decided, after two years of attempting to exercise and diet, that our bodies never truly return to their pre-pregnancy beauty. So that is why I am rocking my post-baby body, and you should too!
In previous posts about why I started Rock and Roses Mama and reviewing breaks aways and date nights with my man, I have mentioned the importance of investing time in your relationship after becoming a parent. I thought I would write in a little more depth about why I feel this is of such importance, as it really is… important.
I was so excited that November was here, as it meant that I could get my Rockin’ Mamas Gift Guide live for you lovely peeps to peruse, that I missed out on reflecting on one of my favourite Holiday seasons of all. I have always held a certain penchant for Halloween as I do love a good dress up session (no… Im not talking Ann Summers style!) Since I was a kid I have always loved fancy dress and one of my best friends was half Canadian so held the BEST Halloween parties!
So as the season of good will approaches (rather fast I may add…) I am, in contrary to previous years of madly rushing around to grab last minute gifts, attempting to be a little more prepared and logical with my present buying. There are lots of great websites and products out there that are amazing for Moms and family buying, but I find that I get lost in buying for others that I don’t know what to say when someone asks me what I want! So… I have conjured a list of 10 of my favourite products and brands this year into this Rockin’ Mamas Christmas Gift Guide (hint hint) to inspire you!
So I have already shared my Rosy Mama Cupcake Recipe and my love of finding any excuse to bake, and as Halloween approached, along with an invitation to a special little ladies first Halloween party, I thought of no better occasion to rustle up some baking magic. Now there was a slight problem as the hosts are vegan and my cupcake recipe, is not. I did however find a perfect recipe that used lemon juice and baking powder as lifting agents instead of eggs and butter.
As rockin’ Mamas we rarely have time to complete our pre baby ‘getting ready in the morning’ routine. However we most definitely deserve to feel awesome and to feel like we look fabulous. We are a busy bunch us Mommas and are all doing an epic job raising our wee bambinos; it goes without saying that sometimes life gets us down and we feel swamped by children. As the saying goes, if you look good you will undoubtedly feel good, so I have conjured a snappy lil list of easy hacks that I have found achieve that ‘I’m rocking Mamahood’ look, without really even trying too much!
Ok… so hold your breath peeps… drums roll please… I did it! I am no longer a Vlog virgin. I never ever thought I would and didn’t think it was at all my thing but I quite enjoyed it. Not being able to edit or re-record certain parts is a terrifying thought when you begin… its all or nothing! But I had fun and really enjoyed answering these questions, so thank you to Charlie at Mess and Merlot for nominating me to answer Vogue’s 73 Questions, her Vlog for this is also her first and is super awesome and the reason I took the plunge to try it out for myself! Check it!
So without further ado…
In line with last weeks ‘Let it go Moments’, this week I have been long suffering with the common cold much like my previously ‘man flu’ afflicted partner. My second Elsa, break out into song on a mountain top, moment is one Im sure all parents of toddlers (or any age little cherubs for that matter – cherub is used very loosely here) will relate to; all eyes on you and what does the little one do? Commence a classic QUEEN worthy ‘I want to break free’ session of feral madness.
