Its a pretty tough road, Motherhood, but there are so many reasons why every Mama needs to know that they ARE in fact NAILING Motherhood; however much it feels like you are failing miserably.
There are days where you may feel like you are staring into a deep, black abyss and every other Mother around you seems to be keeping a swan-like grace; but trust me below the water we are all flapping our feet, crazily trying to stay afloat!
I think that however Insta-Perfect everyone, including yourself sometimes, may seem, it is OK to be vulnerable and let your troubles be known because despite them… you are doing an amazing job! Every Mama needs a little boost and so I came up with 11 of them to cheer your soul on those dark days…
As part of my quest to inspire Mamas to realise their potential to rock Mamahood whilst still being able to retain their own self identity and individuality, I started an interview series where I share the stories of fellow ‘Rockin’ Mamas’. Recently I have interviewed an array of fellow Mama Bloggers, including Vicki from Honesy Mum, Lauren from Dilan and Me and most recently Sophia from Tattooed TeaLady; Today I am interviewing not only a fellow Blogger but one that I have recently met in person at the fabulous BlogOn Conference in Manchester and she took me under her wing! I could not be happier that she has chosen to let me share her answers with you!
I love a Moms night out; wether you are just embarking on the search for a cheeky beverage with a friend, taking the opportunity to go out stuff your face with as much luscious food that you can while you are child free, catching that movie you have been wanting to go and see or going all out on a drunken night of festivities, it is imperative that you make some time out for you. You deserve it after all that stressful parenting and housekeeping malarkey that we Moms do day to day; we spend so much time on our families that we often forget us. So here are my top tips to make the whole entity of having one of those elusive, but essential, ‘Moms night out’ a little more achievable.
I was watching ITV’ This Morning… this morning… (I have to admit that i don’t ordinarily actually pay much attention to morning shows as I am attempting to finally eat my breakfast after sorting out everyone else and indulging my little man in playing for a while) and I was for the first time enthralled by the new feature that Lorraine Kelly hosts called ‘Brand New You’. It is a thread that aims to give daily advice and inspiration to women wanting to refresh and detox their bodies for 2017. Today the instalment focussed on stress and it really interested me enough to feel the need to share in with you lovely ladies, and men, as I feel that parents need to find time for themselves to destress most of all!
Today I am reigniting this seemingly lost corner of my blog which strives to lift and encourage Mamas to not lose sight of who they are after childbirth; The Rockin’ Mamas series. It is so easily done, to become so washed away in Motherhood that we don’t take any time for ourselves; doing what makes us, US! So I sent out a plea for women far and wide to share their stories with you all in the hope of supporting and proving it IS possible! and sharing the amazingly inspirational story of Selena from ‘Winter and Rain’, and her lush lil family.
If you follow me you will know that I love a good ol’ baking session with my little man. The benefit of it being that I also get to eat what I create; win win. As the season of gluttonous goodwill approached I thought I would have a stab at Mince Pies. The seasons traditional sweet treat; along with many others that have entered my mouth already and will continue to do so until they stop selling them (Valentines? Easter maybe?) On perusing traditional recipes, I’m looking at you Delia, Mincemeat seems a horrendous faff so I decided to cheat and pick up some ready made stuff from my local LIDL as ‘Every LIDL helps’… right? Indeed it does. So here are my Mince Pie baking hacks with LIDL.
I wanted to start posting roundups of our past months in pictures. So here is the first of my new monthly series: it is a good one to start with as Autumn has so much to offer a Mama (Who doesn’t love walking through a sea of spicy orange pumpkins and indulging in the occasional leaf crunch?!)
Im back ladies and gents… and in true Elsa style, singing at the top of the mountains “… let it go…” This week has felt utterly exhausting (Three 6am starts at work has seen me totally not with it by the end of them – I got used to my ‘toddler that actually sleeps until 7.30am sleeping habits!) and has seen some major faux pas in the baking world, possibly due to the depleting energy levels actually! So in true Sunday style I am willing myself to let it all go!
So today ladies and gents… I am extraordinarily tired. I am tired of working from 6am every morning, I am tired from having appointments and meetings after work each day and I am tired of having no food in the house as it is the week before payday (Thankfully my man is amazing in every way and has been supplying me with chocolate and Oreo donuts to make me smile – yes they DO make those!) I don’t know about you but when I feel this deflated with the struggles and time juggling of Mum life, it comes hand in hand with feeling as though I am exhibiting terrible parenting when not having the cheerful ‘Barbie doll smile’
Apart from the fortunate few, all Mamas fall victim to the ‘Mum-bod’ post pregnancy and the anxiety and depression that comes with it. With every ounce of extra weight that is gained, every extra inch that surrounds our once slim waistline and every stretch mark, comes a certain deflation that leaves us longing to be our former trim selves. I however have decided, after two years of attempting to exercise and diet, that our bodies never truly return to their pre-pregnancy beauty. So that is why I am rocking my post-baby body, and you should too!
So after the release of my Rockin’ Mamas Christmas Gift Guide, with fervent response, i thought it appropriate that I should also add a Rockin’ Toddlers Christmas Gift Guide to the mix! We have learnt from previous years that we don’t actually have to spend very much on our little man for Christmas as our family and friend circuit is so vast that he gets inundated with presents! We have opted for just one big main ‘tree present’ and then are filling his stocking (which I made for his first Christmas) with little bits and bobs! I have concocted a list of my fave finds this year that can serve as amazing little stocking fillers;
In previous posts about why I started Rock and Roses Mama and reviewing breaks aways and date nights with my man, I have mentioned the importance of investing time in your relationship after becoming a parent. I thought I would write in a little more depth about why I feel this is of such importance, as it really is… important.
