The roadrunner that is Christmas: Why does it always go so quickly?

Musings

I feel like Rose from Titanic crying “Come back… come back”; although replace freezing to death in the middle of the Atlantic with being in a calendar confused, food coma in a toy carpeted living room. All jokes aside, Christmas seems, like everything else that you look forward to, to just pass by like a fleeting memory. Why does Christmas predominantly seem like the roadrunner of seasons? Why does it always go so quickly?

Christmas Traditions in the Rock and Roses household

Culture, Top Rockin' Tips

Everyone loves a good ol’ fashioned Christmas tradition and they are rife in our family! Some span back to before I was even born and have been going on for generations of Rock and Roses ladies; others are brand spanking new and I have conjured them for my little family to enjoy. I think that Christmas is not all about the day (don’t get me wrong it is important obviously) but about the season as a whole. There is a certain warmth and joy to creating the Christmas spirit in your home for your children to bask in. The magic of Christmas can be found in the sparking of imagination from the start of Winter right though to the end; Christmas Traditions are an amazing way of making this possible.

Rockin’ around this Mamas tree; Christmas songs: Love them or loathe them?

Musings

As you can clearly see from my, verging on spammy, Instagram feed I love a bit of the ol’ Christmas spirit. No scrooges or grinches permitted near this Mama’s household thank you very much! Needless to say that music is a huge part of Christmas for me; I have a deep love for music. Wether you love them or loathe them, Christmas songs are a massive part of getting in to the spirit of the season and, like it or not, cannot be avoided the further into December you get.

‘Every LIDL thing for Christmas’: Mince Pie baking hacks

Rosy Mama Recipes, Top Rockin' Tips

If you follow me you will know that I love a good ol’ baking session with my little man. The benefit of it being that I also get to eat what I create; win win. As the season of gluttonous goodwill approached I thought I would have a stab at Mince Pies. The seasons traditional sweet treat; along with many others that have entered my mouth already and will continue to do so until they stop selling them (Valentines? Easter maybe?) On perusing traditional recipes, I’m looking at you Delia, Mincemeat seems a horrendous faff so I decided to cheat and pick up some ready made stuff from my local LIDL as ‘Every LIDL helps’… right? Indeed it does. So here are my Mince Pie baking hacks with LIDL.

Santa Claus, Old Saint Nick, Father Christmas: A hideous lie or a magical belief?

Musings

Silly question right?! Well you would think that, but I recently read an article in The Telegraph that discussed how Scientists have conjured a crazy grinch like theory that parents are in fact traumatising their children by ‘lying’ to them about a non existent jolly red clad present over that visits you at Christmas. Dr Kathy McKay has published an article in The Lancet Psychiatry detailing how we are ‘undermining’ our children’s trust at this festive season which will later damage their mental state and question the trust between them and their parents.
