The Christmas Tag: Thanks to One Clueless Mumma

So its now precisely 5 days until the big C word and I for one am pretty psyched. Anyone with me on that one? I know its a stressful time of year for parents, and I don’t even get anytime off work (yup… working right up until 7 Christmas Eve…waaaaa) but the festive sprint had caught me and I cannot wait for my first ever Christmas at home with my little family. Normally we cart the small man around to various relatives houses but this year… this year… we have taken a stand and are doing Christmas for ourselves! Let the festivities commence! I have been tagged in the bloggers Christmas Tag by One Clueless Mama (head over to check out her answers!) so will now share with you my likes and dislikes of Christmas…

What’s your favourite Christmas movie?

Without a shadow of a doubt… The Grinch. Jim Carey meets Dr Seuss… genius. I literally now all of the words too; me and my sister used to annoy my mother incessantly by reciting the entire film between us on car journeys and train rides!

Have you ever had a White Christmas?

Yeah I remember once when I was little, making a snowman just outside our front door on the driveway. I also recall one year when I was at University making snow angels in our front garden!

Where do you usually spend your holiday?

We normally spend the day with each of our Mothers. Half a day with one and half a day with the other. However my Mama moved to Somerset and so will be country bumpkin-ing it up Christmas day (I will never get any time off over Christmas to have enough time to drive up there and back)

As I mentioned earlier though… we took a stand this year, after years of carting the small man around all day and night we decided we wanted to just be our own family and have a day where we can chill! To be fair why is it always the couples with children that seem to be the ones travelling to everyone else houses? If people want to see us this year, they can come to us!

What is your favourite Christmas song?

Its a weird one… don’t judge me! A Spaceman Came Travelling  – Chris de Burgh… yup… told you it was a weird one! I don’t know why but I can always remember listening to it on one of those classic Christmas compilation albums and I loved it! The chorus is particularly moving and always gets me in the warm, kind Christmas mood.

Do you open any presents on Christmas Eve?

Never ever! Ive never understood this… I know some people do a Christmas Eve box or something of that ilk but I’m all about Christmas day…

Can you name all of Santa’s reindeer?

Ok… here goes… On Dasher on Dancer, on Comet and Vixen… on Prancer? Rudolph… thats ones a dead cert… Ok so I got half!

What holiday traditions are you looking forward to this year?

I am writing a post currently about all of my family Christmas traditions (we have loads!) My favourite is stirring my Nanas Christmas pudding mix and making a wish. Also Christmas is not complete without the smell of my cloved oranges and fresh Christmas tree pine needles!

Is your Christmas tree real or fake?

As above… Christmas isn’t Christmas without the smell of a real tree! We have started a tradition of going and picking one every year too ❤

What’s your all time favourite holiday treat/food/sweet?

All of them! Seriously we did our Christmas food shop last night and I am so in love with my cupboards/fridge/freezer right now! Although I think I’m leaning towards the savoury this year… cheese, pate and crackers, chips and dip, buffet food! Mmmmm…

Be honest, do you like giving or receiving gifts better?

I LOVE presents and I love having special things to open but I prefer to think hard about what people will want and see them open their gifts from me. I personally am most looking forward to my little man opening his presents… thats what its all about.

What is the best Christmas present you have ever received?

HA! My worst was an airer… hilarity. But my memory is quite atrocious… OH… when we were little we came downstairs on Christmas morning to find out we were going to Disneyland… still makes me emotional to think about now… SO amazing and I cannot wait to take the small prince as he adores Disney too ❤

What would be your dream place to visit for the holiday season?

I love a Christmas Market and would adore to go to somewhere like Germany at Christmas and experience the true Christmas Markets!

Are you a pro present wrapper or do you fail miserably?

I like to think of myself as a semi pro; my family have always gone all out on wrapping… Im talking ribbons, bows, tags and using the scissors to make that gold tape stuff all curly!

What made you realise the truth about Santa?

I don’t actually remember finding out that Santa wasn’t real? Cant have scared me that badly! I have a vague recollection of knowing that the wrapping paper I saw in my mothers bedroom was the same as the one used for my presents?

What makes the holidays special for you?

I get very emotional this time of year as it brings up all kinds of feelings in me that I adore my little family and I love spending the day with them and their love. I think its all of the warmth and love that surrounds us this time of year that is so special to me. I am very grateful and thankful for my life.

  1. Ah good for you for staying at home at Christmas and letting people come to you! We can’t wait to do this next year! I laughed out loud when I read that someone bought you an airer for Christmas! I mean, it’s practicable but it’s not very sexy ha ha! Have an amazing Christmas in your own home with your little family and enjoy all fabulous festiveness! x

    1. Haha glad the airer provided laughter for years to come… it was quite a surprise but quite funny looking back! It was when I was at University so i guess my folks thought it would be practical… such an odd thing to unwrap though! We certainly did have an amazingly festive lil family Christmas thank you and I hope you did too ❤
